Bo Bichette's future in New York gets major update: âDifficult to see him wanting to stayâ originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. When the Toronto Blue Jays decided to allow Bo Bichette to walk in free agency, taking a deal that included opt-outs after the first and second seasons with the New York Mets, some questioned it. Even to this day, some wonder whether Bichette would be playing much better in Toronto. Regardless, it seems like the front office made the right decision with the former shortstop, as he's had a brutal year, hitting .222 with just two home runs and a .559 OPS. But Bichette, who has been one of the better hitters in baseball over his career, just hasn't been able to figure things out. As a result, it sounds like he could be traded for contract reasons. âBichette has gotten off to a miserable start (.237, two homers, 16 RBIs) but the two-time All-Star has a glossy resume. He signed a three-year, $126 million contract last winter with two opt outs, and considering the season the Mets are having and the boos serenading him, itâs difficult to see him wanting to stay put. And if he leaves a free agent, there will be no qualifying offer attached for the Mets to receive a draft pick,â Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote. âWhy not trade him and let his new team deal with the opt-outs?â The Mets aren't in much of a position to allow a player of Bichette's status to stay on the roster right now, and there's really no reason for him to stick around. However, those opt-outs don't help the Mets at all and could be part of the reason why he's with New York over the next few years. - Blue Jays have to feel validated after latest Metsâ Bo Bichette report - Scott Boras says everything an agent would when speaking about Tarik Skubalâs health - Braves All-Star to undergo X-ray after just returning to the lineup - Mets legend makes promising admission on Bo Bichette after returning to shortstop - MLB insider sends harsh warning to Yankeesâ Anthony Volpe, but itâs fair - Cubs being mentioned as landing spot for Phillies flame-thrower who will probably be traded
