March at The Underbelly
Hey y’all, The March calendar is arriving a little later than usual this year. I’ve been out of office for the last few weeks because my mom passed away, and I’ve been in the process of being with her through her death and preparing her body for burial. We’re Bahá’is, which means she was buried very quickly after her passing, within a few days, according to Bahá’i principles and practices. The last few weeks have been full of planning services, the graveside burial, and tending to my family. I want to talk more about that experience at some point. But right now, I want to talk about something a little simpler. The March calendar. Because honestly, this month at The Underbelly is really beautiful. And I’m excited for you to practice with it. One of the centerpieces of the March calendar is our new collaboration class with Beautiful Chorus. This class uses their album High Frequency Love Music as the soundtrack for the practice. I’ve loved Beautiful Chorus for years. Their music is a huge part of my personal spiritual practice, so getting to build a class around their work felt really special. The class itself is a gentle morning flow. It’s beginner-friendly, but it’s also great if you’ve been practicing for a long time and just want a new way to move when you wake up. A few things about this class that are a little different: I filmed it outside, which gives the whole practice a different energy The class includes voiceover narration instead of me cueing every pose live We use a FeetUp inversion trainer (or any inversion trainer you have) It’s simple. It’s peaceful. It’s a really nice way to start your day. If you take the class, I would genuinely love to know what you think about the voiceover format. Leave a comment on the class page in the app and let me know how it felt for you. Later this month we reach the Vernal Equinox on March 20, marking the beginning of Aries season and the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Many traditions consider this the true new year. It’s also the Bahá’i New Year and the Persian New Year, which makes this moment especially meaningful to me personally. The equinox is a point of balance — day and night meeting in equal measure — and it’s often seen as a doorway into a new cycle of life. If you want a way to mark that moment, this is a beautiful time to revisit The Underbelly’s New Year Manifestation Ritual. That practice includes: • a grounding yoga flow • intention setting for the year ahead • space to reflect on what you want to grow in your life You don’t have to do it exactly on the equinox. The energy of this seasonal shift carries through the whole month. Spring reminds us that nothing stays dormant forever. Something new is always trying to grow. You can follow along with the calendar inside the app or use it as inspiration to build your own rhythm this month. Featured practices include: Tarot inspired classes (The Fool, The Moon, and The Star are all being featured this month) Beginner-friendly flows Grounding practices for transition and renewal If you’ve been practicing with me for a while, you know that yoga is about so much more than poses. It’s about learning how to stay present in the middle of whatever life is bringing you. This month feels like a reminder of that. Thank you for practicing with me. Love y’all.
