The Note #68
Last week, I was invited by Copenhagen Fashion Week and Substack to talk about the future of storytelling, and the first thing it inspired was a giant ego rush an immense sense of pride. Who, me? Me whoâs been at it for TWENTY YEARS? (Sorry, I might hammer that a little this year, I just canât believe itâs TWENTY YEARS!) Asking me about whatâs to come for storytelling? An ambassador, talking about the future? SIGN ME UP RIGHT THIS SECOND. So here I was, braving frigid temperatures in this absolutely glorious city, chatting about whatâs taken over our lives in the last TWENTY YEARS (okay okay Iâll stop): storytelling. It would be impossible to sum up an hour-long conversation in a few words, but in essence, itâs simple. To me, everything is a story. Only the mediums, formats and ways of consuming these stories constantly change. Stories are a human constant. But I can share the advice I gave to budding storytellersâwhich I think applies to any creative endeavor: 1/ Do it. If youâve ever felt like you had a story to tell, even if itâs just sharing a drawing or talking about how much you love your dog, do it. You never know the creative thread you may pull, and how it might change your life. Thatâs how I started TWENTY Y okayokay⊠Publishing a fewâvery averageâdrawings. 2/ Do it for the ones who donât know youâso you can meet a side of you that you donât know. The main fear, for anyone who starts telling stories, is what people they know will think of them. I, TWENTY YEARS (uhuhu) later, still carry that fear even though I know and have measured how much it cripples my self-expression. Let that fear be a sign that youâre walking uncharted territories, which is courageous, beautiful, and may yield incredible results. 3/ Do less. Never overdo itâitâs so easy to put incredible pressure on ourselves. But itâs a way to self-sabotage, because it will lead to exhaustion. Do less, with less pressure, less ego, less time put in. Thatâs the only way to keep having fun with it. â Social media has been a fantastic tool for self discovery, and itâs really funny what Substack did, taking me all the way back to the early days of blogging⊠Because, TWENTY YEARS (staaaaaaap!) later, Iâm still excited for the future. PSâif you want a little guide of my favorite brands and places in Copenhagen, here is a recap! In my last Letter, I wrote about how strange it feels like to come back into your industry at 50. Also, about how I accidentally got high. In my last Note, I shared the news about my SĂ©zane dinner and partnership, Iâm so excited! In our last Live, I talked about plastic surgery, optimism, having children (or not!), aging gracefully, all said with lots and lots of tissues because I was super sick!!! Letâs meet again on Wednesday, February 11th, at 6pm Paris time. You can join the Live here, itâs open to everyone! Just click the link and you can watch in your browser. Let me know if you need help. At DorĂ©, we launched two new incredible serums!!! They are formulated with a proprietary blend of silk peptides and natural ingredients that deliver visible transformation but do not irritate or sensitize your skin. Both are exclusive to Ulta Beauty and you can learn more about them here: Peptides Extreme FermetĂ© and Peptides Bouclier IntĂ©gral. I love them!
