Three high school softball teams were barred from postseason play after violating the Contest Limitation Rule, according to press releases from the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) over the past week. Smiths Station High School in the 7A bracket and Horseshoe Bend High School and Isabella High School in the 2A bracket were fined and placed on probation after they self-reported that they had violated the AHSAA rule by allowing a player to play in more games than the state's limit. As a result, the schools will have to forfeit all games that player had played in over the limit and will be replaced in their respective playoffs. Earlier this month, Smiths Station was the runner up in the 7A, Area 4 tournament and Horseshoe Bend and Isabella finished first and second in the 2A, Area 7 tournament.
