Welcome to Storyflo's Weekly Deep-Dive on Hardware. I'm Gus.
This week, we saw some major developments in the world of gaming hardware, with new consoles, remastered classics, and innovative handheld devices making waves. Let's dive into the most consequential stories of the week.
First up, Nintendo's Star Fox series is making a comeback on the Nintendo Switch 2, with a remake of the classic N64 game Star Fox 64 dropping on June 25. According to GameSpot, a physical edition of the game will retail for $60, while a digital version will go for $50 on the Switch eShop. Nintendo has described the remake as a modernized adventure featuring a complete visual overhaul, new cinematic cutscenes, and additional Switch 2-specific features.
Meanwhile, over at GameSpot, we learned about a Halo 3 tournament where the top prize is a legendary Xbox 360 Halo 3 edition console. The tournament will take place on June 6 at a GameStop store in Euless, Texas, and winners will be crowned the champion. However, this news may be overshadowed by Microsoft's bid to acquire eBay, which was flatly rejected by the auction site in a $56 billion deal.
Destructoid got their hands on some exciting Star Fox gameplay, showcasing the game's intuitive controls and new features. According to their report, the game feels very natural and easy to play, even for those who don't like flying gameplay. This could be a major win for Nintendo, especially with the Switch 2's capabilities.
In other news, we said goodbye to five games leaving Xbox Game Pass in early June 2026, including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - the latter of which has been on Game Pass for years. On the bright side, three new games joined the Xbox Game Pass library, including Jurassic World Evolution 3, Final Fantasy VI, and The Elder Scrolls Online, which is now available on PC Game Pass for the first time.
Pure Xbox announced a new AAA racing title from Maverick Games called Clutch, set to release on Xbox in 2027. The game will feature a story campaign with a mix of formal racing and street racing, as well as chase scenes and customization options.
In a surprise announcement, MIX Summer Showcase 2026 revealed Wild Blue Skies, a Star Fox 64 spiritual successor coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 13. According to GameSpot, this game is a great alternative for fans of Star Fox who don't own a Switch 2.
Finally, ASUS has announced the new ROG Xbox Ally X20, a refreshed handheld gaming PC with a 7.4-inch 120Hz OLED display, TMR thumbsticks, and a transforming D-pad. According to IGN, the new device will be bundled with a pair of ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses for an unclear price.
This week's hardware news is all about innovation and new releases, from classic remakes to exciting new titles. As we move forward into the summer, expect even more announcements and reveals from major gaming companies.
Gus out.
